His side extended their current unbeaten run to five games and shoved their rivals aside, combining their excellent defensive work with a sudden clinical streak going forward.

The three goals arrived in the absence of Lawrence Shankland and Youssef Chermiti, who are both set to be sidelined for extended periods. In their place, Kevin Kelsy led the line - finding the back of the net just before the hour mark to announce his arrival in just his second start.

With another Old Firm derby awaiting this Sunday, this time in the Scottish Premiership, McInnes once again faces a decision as to who replaces Shankland.

It won't be an easy choice. Last weekend's goals would have come as a relief, but two of those three goals came from midfielder Dan Neil. As nice as that moment was for the summer arrival, Rangers need goals from their frontline.

For many, the transfer market is where the solutions lie. As far as former Rangers defender Alan Hutton is concerned, though, McInnes already has three internal solutions.

Looking ahead to this Sunday's Old Firm derby, Hutton reflected on Shankland's untimely injury, admitting that it's a blow for the Gers, but also insisted that there are solutions that McInnes could turn to this weekend.

Speaking to Football FanCast on behalf of NetBet casino UK, Hutton said: "A lack of goals was definitely a problem in the first few weeks of the season. Confidence was relatively low, especially after the European exit, but scoring three and beating Celtic will have helped that.

"It does feel like they’ve got options in attack, though. Min-su Kim, Kelsy and Badredine Bouanani all look like good attacking signings. Lawrence Shankland and Youssef Chermiti being out injured is an issue, but I think they have enough quality in the squad to deal with that.

"The big thing for Rangers is spreading the goals out. They can’t just rely on one or two players. Wingers and midfielders need to be chipping in and if they can make that happen then they could be a real force this season."

It will have to be an almighty effort from some fresh faces if Rangers are to cope without Shankland and Chermiti. Kelsy has already done his part on that front, but it's now up to Kim and Bouanani to step up.

There are not many better times to score first goals than the Old Firm derby. Kelsy found that out for himself last week and now his new teammates must follow suit this weekend.
