ARLINGTON — George Brett, move over. Mike Trout is officially the biggest pain in Texas Rangers' history.

The Los Angeles Angels superstar belted a lead-off double in the sixth inning on Saturday night in Arlington, marking his 99th career extra-base hit against the Rangers. That put him at the top of the Rangers' opponent list in the category since the franchise moved to Texas in 1972. 

Heading into Saturday night, Brett and Trout were tied with 98 extra-base hits against Texas pitchers. Garret Anderson, who played 15 of his 17 MLB seasons with the Angels, is third on the list with 94.

Trout's double was part of a 2-for-4 night, helping Los Angeles post a 3-0 win. The Angels have given Texas trouble all season, with the Rangers losing their first season series to the Halos since 2021. With Saturday's loss, Texas is 4-8 against the Angels this season. With a loss on Sunday, it would be the fewest wins by Texas against the Angels in a single campaign since Texas went 5-14 against them in 2014.

Heading into Sunday, since July 7, 2025, Texas has dropped 11 of its last 18 and 13 of its last 22 overall to Los Angeles.

Mike Trout continues to torment Texas Rangers

Along with now holding the extra-base mark against Texas, Trout is also already the leader in home runs against the Rangers since the 1972 move to the Lone Star State, slugging 49 of them. Reggie Jackson holds the record against the franchise, if you include the Senators days as well, with 54.

Of course, Trout has haunted many MLB pitchers and franchises since he came into the league in 2011. Now in his 16th MLB season, Trout has been swinging a hot bat at times this month, recording three hits in back-to-back games on Aug. 12 and 13 for the first time since a three-game streak from May 4-6, 2018.

In all, Trout has four games with three hits or more this season.

And yes, those games on August 12 and 13 were against the Rangers, with both helping the Angels post wins as part of a series where they won three of four matchups. It's part of a career where Trout, before Saturday's action, was batting .317 against the Rangers in 756 at-bats over 208 games.

The 35-year-old Trout showed on Saturday that his torment of Texas is far from over.
