A new potential hitch has emerged ahead of the heavyweight showdown between Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua.

Over the past few weeks, the main challenge preventing the clash from being announced was the location of the bout, with event organisers Sela and broadcaster Netflix wanting to stage it in New York, while Joshua and promoter Eddie Hearn wanted it in the UK, as per their original contract.

Joshua and Hearn appear to have won that battle, with the contest now set to take place at Cardiff’s Principality Stadium in December, but it seems there are still other issues to iron out, as over the weekend Hearn spoke about the situation regarding the drug testing.

“[The drug testing protocol] wasn’t adhered to in its form. I don’t actually necessary blame Tyson Fury for that. As we’ve found out on many occasions, what’s in AJ’s contract is not necessarily in Tyson Fury’s contract.

“Testing was supposed to start when the original contracts were signed and it didn’t for them. And I don’t think [Fury] had in his contract that it had to start then. This is not me saying, ‘he didn’t enroll.’ I don’t think he was obligated to enroll [in his contract] but in our contract, he was.”

The saga hasn’t ended there, as Joshua has now shared an email on social media that queries when Fury is going to enrol.

Fury is yet to comment on the matter himself, but fans will hope that this latest problem can be quickly resolved so that they can finally see the fight take place. If so, an official announcement could finally be made this week.
