Anthony Joshua has posted an email concerning VADA testing and Tyson Fury’s enrolment status as their long-awaited heavyweight fight moves closer to being made official. The message asks when Fury plans to enrol and says a whereabouts form is required before either boxer can be enrolled in the programme.

Joshua reshared a post featuring the email, which referenced the Voluntary Anti-Doping Association, better known as VADA. The correspondence did not accuse Fury of failing a test or of any anti-doping violation. Instead, it focused on the administrative step needed for out-of-competition testing to begin: completed whereabouts information from the fighters.

The post has added another talking point to a bout that remains close but unannounced. Joshua and Fury are expected to meet at Cardiff‘s Principality Stadium on Friday, December 11, although the date, venue and final event details still await formal confirmation. Netflix, Sela and both fighters’ teams have been involved in completing the arrangements.

The wording shown in Joshua’s post says the VADA president was asking whether Fury would enrol for the upcoming fight, adding that the association needed the whereabouts form in order to enrol either participant. That is an important distinction from a claim about a drug-test result: the issue presented is enrolment paperwork and the testing process, rather than an analytical finding.

Whereabouts details allow a testing body to locate an athlete for unannounced, out-of-competition sample collection. Under standard anti-doping systems, this can include home addresses, training locations, travel and availability windows.

The email suggests VADA still requires those details before it can activate the programme for the proposed Joshua-Fury contest. Fury had not publicly replied to Joshua‘s post at the time of publication. There is also no public indication from the email itself that Fury declined to take part in testing. The correspondence asks for a process to be completed, which leaves room for the camps and organisers to resolve it before any official fight announcement.

Eddie Hearn had already raised questions about the testing timeline during the venue negotiations. Joshua’s promoter said the protocol had not started in the form originally expected, while stressing that he did not necessarily blame Fury personally.

Hearn said Joshua’s agreement required testing to begin when the original contracts were signed. He said Fury’s deal did not appear to contain the same obligation, meaning Fury may not have been contractually required to enrol at that stage. That explanation is central to the latest social-media exchange.

The fight has spent weeks caught between competing plans. Organisers and broadcaster Netflix had explored New York, while Joshua’s side held to a UK provision in his agreement. Cardiff emerged as the preferred compromise, with Principality Stadium’s roof and capacity helping make it an attractive option for a winter event.

Reports have identified December 11 as the leading date, though it has not been locked in publicly and could still move. Cardiff’s stadium has a stated capacity of 73,931, which would give the British heavyweight rivals a major home setting if the plans are signed off.

Joshua and Fury have spent more than a decade moving toward the fight and away from it. They were on separate paths during the early 2010s, then became the two defining British heavyweights of their era as Joshua collected world titles and Fury returned to the top of the division after beating Deontay Wilder.

Talks have repeatedly gathered pace, only for title obligations, rematch clauses, injuries, retirement talk, promotional disputes and rival fights to change the picture. A 2021 agreement collapsed after Fury was ordered into a third bout with Wilder, while Joshua’s defeats to Oleksandr Usyk and Fury’s two losses to Usyk reshaped the stakes again. Now both men are negotiating a proposed December meeting in Cardiff, but the venue, contract terms and VADA enrolment question show why this matchup has rarely travelled in a straight line.
