Retired UFC fighter and current analyst Anthony Smith has broken his silence following an arrest in Nebraska earlier this summer.

Back in July, “Lionheart” was taken in by Sarpy County police for allegedly making terroristic threats. He’s also facing charges of first-degree false imprisonment and domestic violence. Smith faces up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

The former UFC light heavyweight title challenger was released from jail after posting $500,000 bond. He had been silent up until the weekend, when he posted a family photo on his Instagram account.

“Happy to be home with my household full of ‘whys.’ I’ll be able to tell my story someday soon. Until then…you guys just keep making it up as you go,” Smith wrote. “Character is revealed in chaos.”

A police report claims that Smith threatened to kill his wife following an argument in a bar. He then allegedly forced her into a vehicle and tried running her over at one point.

Many prominent names within the MMA community have weighed in on Smith’s legal situation. UFC CEO Dana White said the news was unexpected, but he believes domestic issues can happen to anyone. Jon Jones, a former opponent of Smith, encouraged “Lionheart” to turn to Jesus in a time of uncertainty. Former UFC fan favorite Matt Brown urged fans to lay off Smith without knowing the truth despite the aforementioned report from Sarpy County police.

Smith recently entered a not-guilty plea to the felony charges. The ex-fighter and his legal team are preparing to return to court on Sept. 21 to begin trial.

There is still no word on Smith’s status as an analyst for UFC on Paramount+ broadcasts moving forward. He hasn’t been seen on broadcasts since news broke of his arrest.
