Blue Jays make several roster moves ahead of Red Sox series

Ahead of the Boston Red Sox series, the Toronto Blue Jays made several roster moves that included selecting right-handed pitcher Simeon Woods Richardson to the Major League roster, recalling infielder Charles McAdoo, optioning right-handed reliever Lazaro Estrada and utility player Davis Schneider to Triple-A.

The Blue Jays bullpen has been overworked; that included Estrada pitching three straight days in a row and was roughed up with a 7.45 ERA and nine strikeouts.

Richardson has already proven to be a durable reliever who can pitch in long relief and whose previous success had him pitch 10 scoreless innings before clearing waivers and remaining in the Blue Jays system.

The Blue Jays bullpen is currently strained, with Jeff Hoffman being dealt and with Yimi Garcia not returning this season and whose career could be in jeopardy after being diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome.

Charles McAdoo gets much-deserved recall while Davis Schneider returns to the minors

In a flurry of roster moves, the Blue Jays also recalled Charles McAdoo, who hit a home run when he made his debut earlier this season with the Blue Jays on May 29. McAdoo has excelled with the Bisons in Triple-A, who recently won International League Player of the Week after crushing four consecutive home runs. The 24-year-old is slashing .269/.366/.465 with 16 home runs and 57 RBI across 89 games.

While Davis Schneider remains a fan-favorite with the Blue Jays, his season-long struggles at the plate have signaled another demotion. He's put up stronger numbers in Triple-A, and while he's succeeded with drawing walks, he's only batting .142 with three home runs and a .569 OPS across 61 games.

He would benefit from more consistent playing time in the minors while making room for McAdoo whose deserving of the recall, as he provides the Blue Jays with a fresh roster addition.

The Blue Jays have already recently gained contributions from their new young core with Brett Bateman and Josh Smith through a small sample size. So, when you throw McAdoo in the mix, you're adding a player who has already shown good chemistry playing in the minors with Bateman.

The Blue Jays have won four consecutive series and have shown more grit and urgency, which they hope to bring forward in their upcoming tough stretch against AL East rival teams.
