Recently acquired Toronto Blue Jays starting pitcher Spencer Arrighetti has yet to make his debut with the team following setbacks in his recovery from a foot injury (Morton's neuroma). 

Arrighetti successfully got through his rehab outing on Aug. 16 without any pain in his foot and threw three 2/3 innings for Triple-A Buffalo.

Following his bullpen assignment on Wednesday, the 26-year-old "felt good," which means that he could be activated off the injured list (IL) on Friday and make his first appearance with the team. Arrighetti could either start or throw a bulk outing behind an opener. 

Arrighetti was acquired on Aug. 3 from the Houston Astros in the Daulton Varsho trade. It will be intriguing to see what Arrighetti brings to the Blue Jays.

What Spencer Arrighetti can provide the Blue Jays

The Blue Jays begin a series against the New York Yankees this Friday, and the right-hander can provide three to four innings of bridge work that would help take a load off the overworked bullpen. In his career against the Yankees, he owns a 1-1 record with a 4.50 ERA and 12 strikeouts across two appearances.

His debut could also be a test to see if he's equipped to handle a rotation spot in the future. In addition, he could also provide the Blue Jays with a fresh arm and can offer immediate value to help stabilize a taxed pitching staff. Arrighetti can potentially provide back-end depth in the rotation.

Arrighetti's ability to eat up innings will come in handy for the Blue Jays, who are making a postseason push in a tight AL wild-card race. His presence could also help rest overworked relievers such as Braydon Fisher, Tyler Rogers and Mason Fluharty.
