No. 4 Kentucky rallied past No. 3 Louisville 3-1 (19-25, 29-27, 25-21, 25-19) on Sunday at Historic Memorial Coliseum, according to Kentucky Athletics.

The match drew an announced crowd of 6,045, the fifth-largest in program history, and stood as the first top-five matchup ever hosted at the Lexington arena.

Sunday's Battle of the Bluegrass was also the first meeting between the two programs with both ranked in the top five nationally. Louisville came in on a 10-match win streak that Kentucky's win snapped.

Cardinals Take Set One, Wildcats Answer

Louisville jumped out early and closed the first set 25-19, hitting .342 while holding Kentucky to .079. Outside hitter Chloe Chicoine led the Cardinals with four kills in that opening frame, according to WLKY.

Kentucky flipped the script in set two, hitting .420 and surviving 16 ties and seven lead changes before closing it out 29-27 on its third set point.

The Wildcats controlled set three, 25-21, on the strength of an early run, then finished the match with a 25-19 fourth set that Brooklyn DeLeye sealed with her second service ace of the day.

Balanced Attack Carries the Wildcats

DeLeye finished with a season-high 22 kills on .269 hitting to go with 11 digs, her fifth double-double of the season. Middle blocker Morgan Gaerte added 20 kills, marking the first time this season Kentucky has put two hitters over 20 kills in the same match.

Setter Kassie O'Brien set a season high with 59 assists, one shy of her career best of 60. Asia Thigpen chipped in 14 kills and Kennedy Washington added 10, giving Kentucky four hitters in double figures.

Molly Tuozzo led the defense with a season-high 21 digs, the fifth time in her career she has topped 20 in a match. Chicoine finished with a match-high 17 kills for Louisville.

Streak History and Series Context

Kentucky's win extended its home winning streak in the series to 27 straight matches and marked the Wildcats' first home victory over Louisville since 2019, after the Cardinals had won at Historic Memorial Coliseum in both 2022 and 2024.

It is Kentucky's second consecutive Battle of the Bluegrass win overall, following a five-set road victory at the KFC Yum! Center in 2025 that snapped a four-year Cardinal win streak in the rivalry dating to 2021.

The result also gave Kentucky its second top-five win of the season, joining a season-opening victory over Wisconsin in Milwaukee, and closed the Wildcats' non-conference schedule at 8-2.

Louisville entered the match ranked No. 3, up from No. 5 two weeks earlier, after sweeping Western Kentucky 25-15, 25-19, 25-19 on Sept. 16.

Kentucky Turns to SEC Play

Kentucky opens Southeastern Conference play Wednesday night against Vanderbilt in Nashville, its first trip to Memorial Gymnasium. First serve is set for 9 p.m. ET on SEC Network and the ESPN app.
