Carlos Prates is telling his peers to be careful what they wish for.

Prates has been emerging as a top contender in UFC’s welterweight division. “The Nightmare” has won his last three bouts against former UFC champions Jack Della Maddalena and Leon Edwards, as well as Geoff Neal. All of those fights ended via knockout or TKO, and Prates snagged three “Performance of the Night” bonuses along the way.

As the finishes continue to impress, Prates has been climbing up the 170-pound ladder. Some are even wondering if Prates has done enough to earn a shot at the winner of the UFC 330 headliner between welterweight champion Islam Makhachev and Ian Machado Garry.

Meanwhile, the likes of Sean Brady and Uros Medic have been calling to share the Octagon with Prates, who has his sights set on UFC gold before fighting either man. Still, The Fighting Nerds standout responded to Brady and Medic on Instagram by warning them about what they’re asking for.

“A lot of you guys @seanbradymma, @medicu, and the other welterweights—have been mentioning my name,” Prates wrote. “Calm down, brothers. In my next fight, I’m taking that belt. After that, I’ll deal with all of you and take you straight to the Kingdom of Pain. Be ready. Nothing personal, just business.”

Brady recently rebounded after his three-fight winning streak was snapped by Michael Morales in late 2025. He got back on the horse to score a unanimous decision win over Joaquin Buckley at UFC 328.

As for Medic, he earned a 30-second TKO finish over Daniel Rodriguez at UFC Belgrade. Medic’s winning streak has been extended to four, and he’s nabbed two straight “Performance of the Night” bonuses. Medic figures to be in for a big fight next, but he may still be out of reach with the Prates fight for now.
