“He’s never fought for an area level, British level, European, or Commonwealth title. He’s never fought for a title, and he’s made more money than most world champions,” said Froch on his YouTube channel. “He’s made a fortune for the level he’s been fighting at. He’s maximized the name of his dad, Nigel Benn, and Chris Eubank Sr. and the whole saga. But unfortunately, it shows, doesn’t it? It’s the truth, the square of truth, that boxing ring. You can’t get away with it. You can’t kid anybody.”

It is hard to disagree with Froch. Benn’s fame, purses and opportunities raced far beyond the quality of his wins. Chris Algieri remained his best victory until the Eubank rematch, and that came against an exhausted 36-year-old who looked finished after their first fight.

Benn never worked through the British or European ladder. He went from beating faded names to two lucrative fights with Eubank and then received a WBC welterweight title shot. His commercial value kept opening doors that his record never earned.

Garcia closed one of them quickly. His speed and timing made Benn look crude, and the right hand that dropped him exposed the gulf between a genuine world-class talent and a heavily promoted attraction. Benn charged forward without controlling the distance, walked directly into Garcia’s power, and had no answer once hurt.

The referee saved him from a worse beating, but he could not save the illusion. Benn is rich, recognizable, and capable of selling another major event. None of that makes him a world-level fighter, and Garcia needed less than two rounds to prove it.
