While Conor McGregor intends on having at least one more pro MMA bout, Alistair Overeem advises against it.

McGregor has been injured throughout his career, and he’s needed to undergo five procedures. The most recent surgery was for the ACL and meniscus injuries he suffered in his comeback fight against Max Holloway at UFC 329. McGregor’s first appearance inside the Octagon in five years ended just past the one-minute mark.

Some are still questioning whether or not McGregor will actually return, but “Mystic Mac” insisted he will be back for the “Last Dance” in 2027. In an interview with Bloody Elbow, Overeem, who won the K-1 2010 World Grand Prix and the Strikeforce Heavyweight Championship, said he doesn’t believe McGregor is the same fighter he once was.

“His body was finished five years ago so his return, to me, was nothing more than a money grab facilitated by the UFC,” Overeem said. “I’m not seeing anything for him in fight sport, he’s done. I think we have to go one step further and that is that if you are going to fight or be an athlete, you need to have a certain lifestyle. You need to not go out and drink alcohol, you need to be making your rounds and I just don’t see that with him.

“You look at his face – when you’re a fighter you can look at another man and kind of see what’s up – and he’s just not the same guy, he’s not a fighter. He’s just not. I’m sure he can throw a punch and he can beat up some beginners or something. But for him to perform on the biggest stage? With all due respect I’m not seeing that for him any more.”

There have been many opinions on McGregor’s knee injury back in July. Some feel he had a preexisting issue, while others believe that it was simply the way he landed on a jumping kick attempt. Regardless, Overeem thinks McGregor is simply done as a prizefighter.
