Houston, we’ve seen enough.

The Astros parted ways with general manager, Dana Brown, on Monday, effective immediately.

The team announced in a press release that his responsibilities will be transitioned to assistant general managers Charles Cook, Gavin Dickey, Connor Huff and senior advisor Jeff Bagwell.

It appears that team owner and chairman Jim Crane will take over baseball operations as they continue through the end of the season.

“Effective today, the Houston Astros and general manager Dana Brown have mutually agreed to part ways. Brown’s contract was set to expire at the end of the 2026 season,” the team said in a statement.

“Astros owner and chairman Jim Crane will oversee baseball operations through the transition period as the team continues to focus on the American League West division race. Brown had served as the Astros GM since January 26, 2023. Over the past four seasons, Dana has helped our organization win two division titles and has led our baseball front office through key scouting, draft and development efforts. On behalf of the Astros, I want to thank him for his commitment, energy, and contributions to our organization. We wish he and his family the best.”

The Astros have lost six of their past eight games and are in a tie for first place with the Rangers in the AL West, sitting at 65-66 on the season.

The move to fire Brown appears to have been brewing for some time, as multiple reports had said that the now-former general manager attempted to trade top reliever Bryan Abreu to the Twins for Trevor Larnach, though the deal was nixed by the Astros owner.

“I want to thank Jim Crane for the opportunity to serve in my first role as an MLB general manager,” Brown said. “The Astros organization and the fans have welcomed me and my family, and I am grateful to have called Houston home for the past four seasons. I wish the organization well and I look forward to the future as I continue my 36-plus years in professional baseball.”

With the two reportedly not agreeing on the direction of the franchise, the Abreu trade, in theory, would be a trade about the future rather than 2026.

As the team has floundered in the second half, they’ve chosen to go their separate ways as they head into the stretch run.

The Astros head to New York this week to face the Yankees and Mets, each for a three-game series.
