Nottingham Forest have moved quickly to rescue their search for a new right wing back after suffering a dramatic setback over Javi Rueda.

Oliver Glasner has already received a major attacking reinforcement, with Forest completing the club record signing of Liam Delap from Chelsea.

The England Under 21 striker has joined for an initial £45 million, and attention has now returned to the opposite end of the pitch.

Forest had been close to signing Rueda from Celta Vigo for £12.8 million and the defender had approved the proposed move, but Celta suddenly withdrew from the agreement after head coach Claudio Giráldez publicly opposed his sale.

Celta only own half of Rueda’s transfer rights, with Real Madrid entitled to the remaining 50 per cent. That meant the Spanish club would have received only around £6.5 million from the proposed deal.

They have instead decided to retain the 24-year-old and offer him improved terms.

Fiorentina defender Dodô has also been considered, but those discussions have not produced an agreement, and Glasner needs another natural option for the right side of his system.

Ola Aina can operate there, but he is equally capable of playing as part of the back three. Neco Williams is another possibility, although Forest also require him to provide cover on the left.

A specialist wing back would therefore add balance while allowing both players to be used elsewhere.

Forest have now turned towards somebody who already understands exactly what Glasner demands from that role.

Nottingham Forest submit bid for Crystal Palace star Daniel Muñoz

David Ornstein reports that Forest have submitted an offer for Crystal Palace defender Daniel Muñoz.

The proposal is worth £20 million, with another £2 million potentially following in add-ons, and Palace are now considering whether to accept it.

That total falls slightly below the £25 million valuation previously mentioned in reports, but Palace’s position has softened following the arrival of Anan Khalaili from Union Saint Gilloise.

Muñoz would require almost no tactical education from Glasner.

The Colombian produced his best football at Selhurst Park under the Austrian, operating high on the right of a 3-4-2-1 formation.

His energy allowed Palace to press aggressively, while his movement into the penalty area regularly created an extra attacking option.

Muñoz also supplied the cross for Eberechi Eze’s winner in the 2025 FA Cup final, helping Palace secure their first major trophy.

He registered five goals and four assists in 46 appearances across all club competitions last season, and given he is now 30, Forest would be paying for immediate, proven and short-term quality.

After Celta blocked Rueda’s departure, Forest needed a reliable alternative, and Glasner may now get the wing back he knows better than anybody.
