Their one success came in this competition, a lively 4-2 win at Plymouth in round two, and that should stop Villa from treating the trip as a routine exam.
Emery is expected to make changes during a demanding run of fixtures, as Ian Maatsen and Pau Torres were both injured against Forest, while several summer arrivals are still waiting for regular opportunities.
Alejandro Garnacho is among those pushing for a start.

Aston Villa ‘already planning’ permanent Alejandro Garnacho move despite criticism
Former Villa scout Mick Brown has now claimed the club are already preparing to keep Garnacho, although he remains deeply unconvinced by the proposed deal.
“I was very surprised to see Aston Villa make a move for Garnacho in the first place,” Brown told Football Insider.
“I've never been convinced by what he could offer them, and even in the first few games of the season, he's hardly featured, so it's definitely a strange one.
“Even stranger, though, is the fact it already seems they want to make the deal a permanent one, because the manager has said he wants to keep him for a long time.
“Maybe he's seen something we haven't, maybe he feels he can get the best out of him, but I would've thought he would have to do a lot more to earn that permanent move.
“It's a big fee involved as well, so you'd have thought that money could be invested elsewhere if Garnacho fails to impress.
“But as I say, it looks like Aston Villa are already planning to make that signing permanent from Chelsea, so good luck to them after his other clubs couldn't wait to move him on.”
Garnacho now needs opportunities to answer those doubts, and a strong display against Coventry would be a useful place to begin.
