Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayAccording to ESPN's Jeff Passan, the San Francisco Giants are calling up left-handed starting pitcher Matt ''Tugboat'' Wilkinson, who was acquired in the Patrick Bailey trade in May. Following the acquisition, he has become the Giants' No. 29 prospect.
The 23-year-old was a 10th-round pick out of junior college and has put up a dominant performance in Triple-A with the Sacramento River Cats as he's only given up 59 hits across 90 innings while punching out 96 batters.
Wilkinson is 270 pounds and owns a 6-6 record with 3.40 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP across three levels in the minors this season. He's a former Cleveland prospect and is known for pounding the strike zone.
He is anticipated to make his MLB debut at Progressive Field in the upcoming series against the Cleveland Guardians which commences on Tuesday. The Canadian could be set to pitch Wednesday against the Guardians as their starter is ''To Be Announced'' (TBA) with Logan Webb's start being pushed back because of back soreness.

It will be compelling to see Wilkinson face MLB hitters, especially against his former team, if he pitches in the Cleveland series. Wilkinson is known for limiting walks and relies on a low-velocity fastball.
Wilkinson was highly regarded for his stellar performance in the World Baseball Classic (WBC) this season for Team Canada where he struck out both Cal Raleigh and Bryce Harper.
The slow-throwing left-hander provides a ton of grit with a distinctive nickname. He was given the nickname "Tugboat" from a family friend who watched him run around the bases and felt it resembled the pace of a boat that is meant to tug larger ships.
Despite his 89-92 mph velocity, he's still generated swing and miss with his deceptive, flat arm angle. Through 10 starts this season with Triple-A Sacramento, he's logged a 5.15 ERA with 43 strikeouts across 43 2/3 innings.
