Robbie is the Assistant Editor at Football FanCast.

Having graduated from the University of Exeter in 2020, Robbie spent time working as an intern or in freelance positions across a variety of sites, including at 90min, producing news and feature content related to clubs in the Premier League, EFL, SPFL and in Europe.

Robbie subsequently spent over a year working as a news, features and opinion writer at Football Faithful, primarily focused on the Premier League and Manchester United, in particular.

After beginning life at Football FanCast as part of the company's academy set-up in 2022, Robbie has risen through the ranks to now taking on the role of Assistant Editor since October 2023, having also been part of the Exclusives team in the past.

Across the last few years, Robbie has covered Manchester United, Celtic and Rangers on a regular basis, alongside a raft of other clubs, boasting an in-depth knowledge of the Premier League, EFL and Scottish football in general.

Robbie is a Manchester United fan, but also has a particular fondness for both Celtic and Wycombe Wanderers, taking in a multitude of home and away games for the Chairboys over the last two decades.

As Andrew Cavenagh openly admitted this week, there is set to be a change in tack at Glasgow Rangers this summer, with the Ibrox side pursuing a policy of prioritising Scottish or Premiership-proven targets.

Be it Oliver Antman or Andreas Skov Olsen, among others, so many marquee signings from abroad have failed to live up to the billing in Glasgow, struggling to adapt to the rigours of Premiership football.

That's not to say every Premiership-ready signing has paid off either, just look at Lyall Cameron or Bojan Miovski, but chasing those who have already been a success in the league appears to be a wise move ahead of next season.

With Danny Rohl's future at the club seemingly secure, now it's all about building a squad capable of challenging again under the German, both in Europe and domestically.

Rangers already in talks to sign £3m Premiership star

There will be a hope that the Gers are able to cherry-pick the best talent that the top-flight has to offer, with a move for Dundee's Luke Graham having long been mooted at Ibrox.

Equally, the Light Blues are also believed to be in the mix for Motherwell star, Elijah Just, with the New Zealand international enjoying a fine, breakout season under departing boss, Jens Berthel Askou.

The 26-year-old wasn't alone in catching the eye at Fir Park, however, with The Scottish Sun reporting that Rangers have also begun working on signing Just's standout teammate, Elliot Watt.

As per the report, both Rangers and Celtic, alongside Cardiff City, have opened talks regarding a potential move for the midfielder, with all three clubs said to have made 'enquiries'.

The piece does note that Well aren't under pressure to sell, but they could seek to cash in if their £3m asking price is met, having set the bidding at that figure.

Why Watt could be another Steven Davis at Rangers

Midfield, even with Nicolas Raskin a prominent figure still in Glasgow, has long been an issue for Rangers, with far too many arrivals having backfired in recent years.

Be it Jose Cifuentes, Joe Rothwell or the aforementioned Cameron, the Gers have burned through midfield signings, still a far cry from the quality and depth that Steven Gerrard had at his disposal during the title-winning 2020/21 season.

At that stage, Gerrard could call upon the likes of Ryan Jack, John Lundstram, Joe Aribo and Glen Kamara, having also relied on the experience of a veteran Steven Davis, following the Northern Irishman's return in 2019.

Not blessed with pace, power or physicality, Davis' game was all about ball retention and progression, keeping things ticking over nicely as such a classy operator, even in his later years.

Watt, hailed by writer Kai Watson as the "best midfielder in the league this season, is certainly cut from a similar cloth, having been such an instrumental, midfield metronome in Askou's side of late.

The impressive Scot, like Davis, is no ball-winning destroyer or physical specimen, but he is so easy on the eye, pulling the strings in the heart of Motherwell's midfield.

In 2025/26, for instance, he scored and assisted nine league goals, while creating six 'big chances' and averaging 1.1 key passes per game, so often looking for that incisive, probing pass to those ahead of him.

He regularly seeks to dictate and dominate proceedings, having averaged 97.1 touches per game across his 34 starts, all while still recording a solid 86% pass accuracy rate.

In total, the £3m-rated playmaker actually made the second-most accurate passes in the division as a whole (2347), only behind Celtic's Liam Scales in that regard.

In an era where it is so often centre-backs, like Scales, who rack up the most touches and passes, that speaks to Watt's knack for controlling the game from midfield instead, potentially the man who can finally restore a sense of calm to the Gers' midfield, in a similar vein to Davis.

For context, in that glorious 2020/21 campaign, Davis ranked fourth in the division that season for accurate passes (2246), having also averaged 81.7 touches per game and boasted an 89% pass accuracy rate across his 29 starts.

The similarities between the now-retired genius and Watt are evidently there to see, with Rohl's side seemingly crying out for a figure who can bring a sense of calm and composure.

Rangers at their best this season were rampant and relentless right out the gate, be it in the 4-2 win over Hearts or the 2-2 draw in the Old Firm at Ibrox, yet the next step is managing to see games out with a sense of control, turning a basketball game into a chess match instead.

Watt, following such a stellar season at Fir Park, could well be the difference maker in that regard next season.
