Callina Liang took her preparation for Chun-Li seriously while filming the upcoming “Street Fighter” movie, saying she increased the size of each thigh by 6.5 centimeters through martial-arts work, leg training and a high-calorie bulking diet. Liang said Chun-Li’s fighting style made the physical change part of the job, since the Capcom icon is known for powerful kicks and a muscular lower body.

Liang said her training included two hours a day of Taekwondo, Muay Thai and wushu, with additional focus on building leg strength. She changed her eating routine during the bulk, consuming 12 eggs a day and having meals every two hours. The actress said the volume of food left her feeling close to getting sick, though she felt the regimen delivered the result she needed by the end of shooting.

“Chun-Li Is All Kicks” Inside Callina Liang’s 12-Egg-a-Day “Street Fighter” Prep

“When I was bulking, I ate 12 eggs a day. Every two hours I had to have a meal, and I was on the verge of throwing up. My thighs had grown six-and-a-half centimeters each… Chun-Li is all kicks,” Liang said of the approach. “So we did a bunch of Taekwondo training, Muay Thai, and Wushu.” She said the martial-arts work took up two hours a day, alongside leg strengthening and a major diet change.

The physical prep went hand in hand with studying Chun-Li’s moves. Callina Liang said she downloaded the available “Street Fighter” games to a PlayStation 5, recorded the character’s fights in slow motion on her phone and reviewed the clips to learn how Chun-Li moves. That homework was aimed at making the movie’s action feel tied to the games rather than creating a generic fight style for the character.

Chun-Li first appeared in 1991’s “Street Fighter II” and became the franchise’s first playable woman character. Across the games, she has been defined by rapid-fire kicks, martial-arts technique and a design built around strong legs, leaving Liang with a particularly recognizable version to play on screen.

Callina Liang’s Thigh Workout for Chun-Li

For the role, Liang said she trained for two hours a day in Taekwondo, Muay Thai and wushu, while adding extra leg-strength work to match Chun-Li’s kick-first fighting style. Her bulking diet was just as demanding: Liang said she ate 12 eggs a day and had to eat a meal every two hours, admitting she was “on the verge of throwing up” from the intake. Still, she said, “it worked,” with each thigh growing 6.5 centimeters by the end of the shoot.

Liang joins an ensemble led by Andrew Koji as Ryu and Noah Centineo as Ken Masters. The cast also includes Jason Momoa as Blanka, David Dastmalchian as M. Bison, Cody Rhodes as Guile, Roman Reigns as Akuma and Curtis “50 Cent” Jackson as Balrog. The story places Ryu and Ken in the World Warrior Tournament after Chun-Li brings them into the competition, while a conspiracy puts the fighters on a collision course.

Kitao Sakurai directed “Street Fighter” from a screenplay credited to Sakurai and T.J. Fixman, based on a story by Dalan Musson and Gary Dauberman. Legendary is producing alongside Capcom, with Paramount set to release the film in theaters on October 16, 2026.
