Former UFC title challenger Darren Till didn’t hold back on expressing his disapproval of Ian Machado Garry ahead of UFC 330.
Ian Machado Garry is looking to dethrone UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev next weekend at UFC 330. After recent wins over Belal Muhammad and Carlos Prates, Garry is aiming to give Makhachev the toughest test of his career and knock off the UFC’s pound-for-pound king.
Ahead of UFC 330, Garry has ruffled many feathers with some of his non-fighting comments. After he recently claimed that the world would be ‘better off with women in charge’, Garry drew the ire of many of his fighting colleagues, including Makhachev and welterweight Uros Medic.
Garry didn’t help his case when his marketing campaign with PETA (People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals), was labeled as ‘cringey’ by many UFC fans. Perception of Garry has lessened ahead of his UFC 330 title fight.
Former UFC star Darren Till believes Garry’s perceived ‘fakeness’ is a significant barrier to his likeability.
Darren Till: Ian Machado Garry ‘has fake written all over him’
In a recent interview with The Mac Life, Till was asked about Garry’s questionable media tour ahead of UFC 330.
“I’m not a hateful guy. I don’t hate Ian Garry,” Till said of Garry.
“But I just think every time that guy speaks, he just absolutely tarnishes his brand, his image, by what he’s talking about. Look, I’m a guy for the power of the women. I have four girls…Powerful women, of course, we love that, but it’s just the things he says. And it’s always like he’s trying to buy love. If he was a bit more like me, mate, people would love him, because he’s obviously a great fighter.
“The one thing as well, people can see and know a fake guy. And he’s got fake written all over him. For me he has, anyway.” (h/t MMA Fighting)
