Ian Machado Garry is someone who rubs some people a certain way. Another prolific UFC welterweight who resonated as polarizing to many has offered his assessments of ‘The Future’. Machado Garry is coming off of losing in his 170-pound title bid against reigning champ Islam Makhachev at UFC 330 on August 15th. When discussing Ian Machado Garry’s performance over the weekend and how much perceptions of personas in MMA have changed through the years, Woodley said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“I mean, I think Ian [Machado Garry] is a good fighter. I think we’re in such a weird time of the sport where people are just doing so much of what they think others want them to do and don’t want them to do. In my era, we were ourselves. Like everybody didn’t like the way that I was champion. They didn’t like the way I was outspoken and I stood on what I believed. But I feel like Conor [McGregor] was his own person and Ronda [Rousey] was her own person.”

“Jon Jones was his and we all had our own individual personalities. Now it’s like everybody has something to say about how a person should be champion and how they should present themselves and he shouldn’t be hugging. Like we can’t tell somebody what he should be doing and most people that are telling him what he should be doing have never even won a championship before.”

 Ian Machado Garry releases statement post-UFC 330 title loss

Machado Garry came out on the wrong end of the win-loss binary, but the Irish combatant clearly is not dissuaded. A post-fight video was released with Machado Garry’s statement reading as follows [via MMA Fighting],

“Tonight wasn’t my night. I feel great, I did great, Islam was just better than me tonight and that’s OK. I want everybody who loves me and supports me and wants to see me do better, I want you to know that I’m going to be back. “I’m not disheartened by this. I’m bulletproof in my mind.”

“I’m 28 years of age, I just fought maybe the greatest fighter we’ve ever seen in this sport and I pushed him to the f***ing wire and I’m so proud of myself and I’m so proud of my team and everything that we’ve done. I’m so proud of what I’ve done in this world and who I’ve become. Nobody’s stopping me. Tonight was not my night.”
