Islam Makhachev defends welterweight title against Ian Machado Garry at UFC 330 in Philadelphia

Islam Makhachev’s first UFC welterweight title defense against Ian Machado Garry should be one-sided if Sean Brady’s hunch is correct.

Makhachev and Garry will share the Octagon under the bright lights inside Xfinity Mobile Arena in Philadelphia. The championship bout is set to headline UFC 330 on Aug. 15. Brady spoke to James Lynch for Home of Fight, and he said he doesn’t expect Makhachev to face difficulty scoring takedowns despite the challenger’s frame.

😤Sean Brady believes Islam Makhachev vs. Ian Garry will be one-way traffic and is confident Islam will finish him easily.

“Ian is definitely a big guy, but he isn’t going to put you out in one shot.

“Garry is tall, he’s long, but he’s not like a [Michael] Morales where he’s big and strong as well,” Brady said. “Ian’s not putting guys out with one shot. He doesn’t really have that capability. So, I don’t think it’s gonna be too hard for Islam to get him down.”

Brady sees Makhachev finishing Garry, and he doesn’t think the fight will last.

“I just think it’s one-way traffic for Islam,” Brady predicted. “I think he’s gonna get him down and I think he will sub him.”

The oddsmakers are sensing a win for Makhachev over Garry, who has only been defeated by Shavkat Rakhmonov. In the loss, Garry’s grappling was tested. “The Future” had some moments in the fight, which made things competitive, but Rakhmonov got the better of him on points.

Garry feels he has built off that bout, and he plans to demonstrate those improvements against the No. 1-ranked pound-for-pound UFC titleholder. Charles Oliviera, a former opponent of Makhachev, thinks “The Future” has a solid chance of pulling off the upset. Others, such as fellow top lightweight contender Michael Morales, are more in alignment with Brady’s assessment.

Makhachev recently vowed to take more risks in his showdown with Garry. He captured the 170-pound gold from Jack Della Maddalena by focusing heavily on his grappling, but he promises to finish Garry at UFC 330.

Will Islam Makhachev vs. Ian Machado Garry be one-sided, or do you think it’ll be more competitive than some are predicting? Sound off in the comments below.
