ISU Congress 2026: Elections Shape Figure Skating Leadership for the Next Olympic Cycle

The final day of the 60th ISU Congress focused on elections for key leadership positions across the International Skating Union, with delegates selecting officials who will help guide the organization through the 2026-2030 term.

Among the most notable results for the figure skating community were the re-election of ISU President Jae Youl Kim, the election of György Elek as ISU Vice President for Figure Skating, and the appointment of new leaders for the Ice Dance and Synchronized Skating Technical Committees.

Jae Youl Kim Re-Elected as ISU President

Delegates re-elected Jae Youl Kim as ISU President by acclamation.

Addressing Congress following his re-election, Kim thanked the Members for their support and reaffirmed his commitment to leading the organization through the next four years. Kim was first elected president in 2022 and has overseen the implementation of the ISU’s Vision 2030 strategy.

György Elek Elected Figure Skating Vice President

One of the most significant elections for the figure skating branch was the selection of the next ISU Vice President for Figure Skating.

Following multiple rounds of voting, György Elek of Hungary was elected to the position for the 2026-2030 term. Elek received 80 votes in the final round, defeating Benoit Lavoie of Canada, who received 40 votes.

After his election, Elek thanked ISU Members for their trust and pledged to serve the figure skating community with experience, passion and energy during the next four years.

New Figure Skating Council Members Elected

Congress also elected five representatives to serve on the ISU Council for the Figure Skating Branch during the 2026-2030 term.

The elected members are:

  • Kristina “Tina” Lundgren (United States)
  • Tatsuro Matsumura (Japan)
  • Benoit Lavoie (Canada)
  • Susan Lynch (Australia)
  • Fabio Bianchetti (Italy)

The elected members will help guide the ISU’s strategic and administrative work during the 2026-2030 term.

New Technical Committee Chairs Selected

Delegates also elected new chairs for several technical committees.

In Ice Dance, Michela Cesaro of Italy was elected Chair of the ISU Ice Dance Technical Committee for the 2026-2030 term. Cesaro received 78 votes, defeating Shawn Rettstatt of the United States, who received 37 votes.

In Synchronized Skating, Nina Bischoff of Switzerland was elected Chair of the ISU Synchronized Skating Technical Committee. Bischoff prevailed in one of the closest contests of the day, receiving 59 votes to Karin Sherr’s 58.

Technical Committee Members Elected

Congress also elected members of the Technical Committees responsible for overseeing the sport’s technical rules and development.

For the Single and Pair Skating Technical Committee, the elected members were:

  • Daniel Delfa (Spain)
  • Leah Bates (Australia)
  • Feng Huang (China)
  • Kerstin Kimminus (Germany)

The elected members of the Ice Dance Technical Committee were:

  • Marie Bowness (Canada)
  • Marcin Kozubek (Poland)
  • Csaba Bálint (Hungary)

For the Synchronized Skating Technical Committee, delegates elected:

  • Jennifer Betts (Canada)
  • Karin Sherr (United States)
  • Ida Hellström (Finland)

The newly elected committee members will serve during the 2026-2030 term.

Skating Integrity Unit Board Established

Congress also elected the first members of the newly established Skating Integrity Unit Board.

Joyce Cook of Great Britain was elected Chair of the Board, while Herman de Haan of the Netherlands and Jill Pilgrim of the United States were elected as board members. According to the ISU, the Skating Integrity Unit forms part of the federation’s ongoing efforts to strengthen governance, safeguarding and integrity across all skating disciplines.

Audit, Risk and Investment Committee Re-Elected

Congress also elected the members of the ISU Audit, Risk and Investment Committee by acclamation for the 2026-2030 term.

The elected members are:

  • Margaret Blunden
  • Michael Foley
  • Warren Joseph Naphtal

The committee provides oversight on matters relating to financial reporting, risk management and investment activities within the ISU.

Congress Concludes in Tenerife

The conclusion of Day 3 marked the end of the 60th ISU Congress in Tenerife, Spain.

Over three days, delegates reviewed the federation’s strategic plans, received reports from ISU commissions and technical committees, approved budgets, discussed the future development of skating and elected officials who will guide the organization through the next Olympic cycle.
