In his most recent livestream for Bleacher Report, NBA insider Jake Fischer said that Jonathan Kuminga is down to deciding between two teams. Kuminga is set to choose between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Minnesota Timberwolves for next season.

Both the Lakers and Timberwolves can only offer Kuminga a veteran minimum contract, without expanding the transaction or making another deal. Kuminga could get more than the minimum via a sign-and-trade, but that comes with difficulties. The Atlanta Hawks are just $3.8 million from the luxury tax and are unlikely to want to take salary back in exchange for signing-and-trading the veteran forward. That means it would have to be a three-team deal.

In addition, the Wolves are roughly $8.2 million over the first apron. They'd be unable to complete a sign-and-trade unless the deal finished with the team under the first apron. Minnesota also has the full $6 million Taxpayer MLE available, but using it would trigger a second-apron hard cap. The Timberwolves are just $4.5 million below the second apron with two open roster spots.

All of that has Kuminga reportedly favoring a deal to the Lakers. Ideally, that would occur via sign-and-trade, but that may involve the Lakers incentivizing a third team to take on the salaries of Jarred Vanderbilt or Dalton Knecht.
