Former undisputed super-lightweight world champion Josh Taylor has offered his thoughts on Anthony Joshua’s chances of defeating Tyson Fury.

Fury returned to the ring and scored a first stoppage win in almost four years as he halted Polish veteran Mariusz Wach in an unusually low-profile bout in Thailand on July 24, as former world title challenger Wach retired on his stool after seven rounds of action.

The following day, Joshua made his comeback, though his chance to remind fight fans of his quality instead exposed his flaws, as ‘AJ’ was floored by Kristian Prenga on two occasions in the opening round but bounced back in round two to score a knockout of his own.

Now it seems as though Fury vs. Joshua will be announced imminently and speaking on Fight Your Corner, Taylor labelled the match-up as a ’50/50’ affair, but recognised that the fight has lost some of it’s appeal.

“We all had a bit of a panic when Joshua went over, but he got up and he got the job done, fantastic. But, I think the appeal of that fight now is slowly fading away.

“Don’t get me wrong, I’ll watch it, but the two of them are so far past their best that it’s lost its blockbuster appeal to me … I think it’s a genuine 50/50.”

Fury vs. Joshua seems likely take place at Madison Square Garden in New York this November, but Eddie Hearn has threatened to pull Joshua out of the event if an announcement is made without a new deal being struck, given their side have signed a contract for it to take place in the UK.
