Klay Thompson believes his record-setting 37-point quarter against the Sacramento Kings could remain unmatched for a long time.

More than a decade after the historic performance, Thompson reflected on the night during a conversation with former NBA player Serge Ibaka and admitted he is unsure whether anyone will ever reproduce it.

“That’s a lot of points in the quarter. I don’t know if that’ll be done again, to be honest,” he said. “9-for-9 from three [point range] in nine minutes, that’s hard to do. It’s hard to do for me just in the gym alone.”

Thompson acknowledged that some luck was involved in everything falling into place that night, although he would still like to eventually see another player surpass his record.

When Ibaka asked what was going through his mind during the incredible stretch, Thompson explained that he was simply reacting rather than thinking about the magnitude of what was happening.

“The only thing going through your mind is getting the ball and getting it off your fingertips,” he said. “You’re hot, you’re in that flow state, and you feel like it’s just gliding off your fingers.”

Thompson finished the game with a then-career-high 52 points, making 16 of 25 shots from the field and 11 of 15 from three-point range.

His 37-point third quarter remains an NBA record for points in a single quarter.
