Before the summer window opened, Daniel Farke made an outcry to the Leeds United hierarchy for additional funds to take his side to the next level in 2026/27.

In a last-minute deal last night, Leeds secured the signing of Eintracht Frankfurt winger Jean-Matteo Bahoya on a season-long loan with an obligation to buy for £25m next summer.

The 21-year-old appeared on the Whites’ radar late in the day on deadline day, but was previously heavily linked with moves to Hull City and Manchester United.

The French star, who’s made six U21 appearances for his nation, can play out wide or in the number ten position, but what will he add to the club in 2026/27?

Bahoya is a very direct and pacey attacking option for Farke’s side, and the youngster has clocked the fastest ever top speed for a player in the Bundesliga with his 37km/h run last term.

His direct nature was further evident in his impressive dribbles completed tally, with the attacker registering 2.8 successful take-ons per 90 - ranking him in the top 6% of all forwards in Europe.

He often put the end product on his mazy runs in Germany, subsequently ending the 2025/26 campaign with seven combined goals and assists in just 15 league starts.

Bahoya’s ability to create opportunities for his teammate was also evident in his chance creation tally, which saw him create 2.1 chances per 90 - ranking him above 88% of attackers in Germany’s top-division.

How Leeds made a mistake selling a bigger talent than Bahoya

Over recent seasons, Leeds have had a whole host of attacking options at Elland Road, many of which have captured the hearts of the fanbase with their efforts in forward areas.

Raphinha is undoubtedly the first player who comes to mind, subsequently lighting up the Premier League before completing a club record £55m deal to join Barcelona.

He’s since taken his career to astronomical levels in Spain, helping the LaLiga giants win the title and finishing in fifth place in last year’s edition of the Ballon d’Or.

However, he’s not the only attacker who exceeded all expectations in Yorkshire, with winger Crysencio Summerville playing a huge part in the club’s story over recent seasons.

The Dutchman arrived as a teenager from Feyenoord back in April 2021, with the forward originally linking up with the club’s academy before impressing in the first team.

The 2023/24 campaign was where he had his biggest breakthrough, as the 24-year-old scored 20 times and registered nine assists in England’s second tier for the Whites.

Such a year was undoubtedly the best of his professional career, but it wasn’t enough to secure the club promotion - resulting in a £25m deal to join West Ham United in the Premier League.

After struggling in his first year, the 2025/26 season was another year where he captured the attention of those across the country as he registered 10 combined goals and assists in all competitions.

Such a tally was higher than new Leeds signing Bahoya, with Summerville undoubtedly a bigger talent than the Frenchman at this stage of their respective careers.

Both players prefer to feature off the left-side of the frontline, with the former Whites star achieving a better cross success rate in the final third last campaign.

He also drew more fouls when dribbling at the opposition, with defenders often having to resort to taking him down to prevent him from getting into full flow with the ball at his feet.

The Dutch star even took his talent to the international stage this summer, subsequently registering two goals and two assists in his four appearances at the recent World Cup.

As a result of his magnificent performances, Summerville secured a mega £65m move to Saudi Arabian side Al Hilal - no doubt seeing Leeds fans wish they had kept hold of the attacker.

Their inability to win promotion during the 2023/24 campaign led to his departure, with their failure to beat Southampton at Wembley costing them the chance of keeping hold of an elite-level forward.

However, it’s crucial that the supporters back new signing Bahoya during his quest at Elland Road - especially if he is to get anywhere the Dutchman’s level in the near future.
