Hitter of the Day

Cam Cauley, IF/OF, Texas Rangers (Triple-A Round Rock): 4-5, 2 HR, 4 R, 6 RBI.
Always a slick-fielding middle-infielder, in-state product Cauley has consistently if underwhelmingly found himself on lists throughout his pro career. He made his big-league debut at the age of 23 in late June, but scuffled enough in sixty-some plate appearances that he was sent back down. Interestingly, he’s played about as much center field as he has anywhere else the past two seasons, with second base in second place. Wednesday was his third game back.

Pitcher of the Day

Ben Jacobs, LHP, Detroit Tigers (High-A West Michigan): 5 ⅓ IP, 0 ER, 3 H, 6 K, 2 BB.
Jacobs hasn’t been exceptionally consistent since being promoted to High-A early on in this season, but he’s already made huge strides since his college days, and a funky lefty release with pretty good stuff (mid-90s fastball, bunch of secondaries) pretty quickly starts to feel like a high-probability big-league arm of some sort, even if it is ultimately in a pen role.
