Newcastle United are all set to return with an improved offer for Tottenham midfield sensation Lucas Bergvall.

Lucas Bergvall’s future has been a big talking point as the Swedish midfielder has gone down the pecking order at Tottenham since the arrival of Roberto De Zerbi. The 20-year-old didn’t start any of the final six games last season and believes he could have a more prominent role at any other English club.

Lucas Bergvall could end up leaving Tottenham

According to Pete O’Rourke via Football Insider, Bergvall’s stance on his future is unlikely to change, and he would still be open to a move away from the North London club, amidst interest from Newcastle United. While De Zerbi continues to use him in pre-season and has refused to rule out the possibility of him staying, the right opportunity and offer could still lead to his departure.

O’Rourke said: “This is an ongoing situation with Bergvall. I don’t think his stance has changed, and he would be interested in a move away from Tottenham in search of regular, consistent first-team football, which he probably isn’t going to get there after their new midfield signings.”

Bergvall indicated his desire to leave earlier in the summer after struggling for game time last season, and following the arrival of Sandro Tonali and Mateus Fernandes in the summer, things are unlikely to improve.

Why Newcastle are pushing for Bergvall?

Newcastle, who have sold both their star midfielders Tonali and Bruno Guimaraes this summer, are in desperate need of a rebuild. They want more quality, and the versatile Bergvall could be an ideal fit for their setup.

He is a Premier League-proven player with massive potential. The 20-year-old won’t take long to adjust to his new surroundings, and he could become one of the cornerstones of their new project.

Having already seen a bid turned down earlier in the window, the Magpies are set to return with an improved offer. With the youngster’s contract running until 2031, Spurs seek upwards of £50 million. As a result, it will be interesting to see if the Magpies’ offer is anywhere close to Tottenham’s valuation.
