The Phillies are trying to fix their outfield.

Philadelphia acquired center fielder Derek Hill and bonus cash from the White Sox for outfield prospect Dylan Campbell and infield prospect José Colmenares, the team announced Thursday.

Both Campbell and Colmenares are outside of the Phillies’ top 30 prospects, according to MLB Pipeline.

The trade comes a week after the Phillies lost right fielder Adolis Garcia to a shoulder injury while making a throw to home plate.

Garcia underwent imaging on Thursday, though the results and a timeline of his return have yet to be announced.

Before trading for Hill, the Phillies lacked healthy options to replace Garcia, with Otto Kemp, Felix Reyes, and Gabriel Rincones Jr. being the only potential replacements.

Both Kemp and Reyes have struggled defensively this season in limited appearances for Philadelphia. Rincones is still recovering from an offseason leg injury, which has held him to just 22 games played this season.

Hill, who has played at least 13 games at each outfield position this season, was brought in to fix the depth issue and plug in anywhere the Phillies need.

The 30-year-old has yet to make an error in the outfield this season and holds an impressive 3.10 range factor in center field.

At the plate, Hill has been effective against left-handed pitchers, posting a .245 batting average with a .789 OPS against lefties in 2026.

Philadelphia has particularly struggled against lefties this year, hitting just .220 as a team against them.

Despite the struggles, the Phillies hold a 37-31 record and are second in the National League East behind the Braves.
