Orgo-Life the new way to the future Advertising by AdpathwayThe Pittsburgh Pirates' offseason acquisition of Brandon Lowe continues to be a massive win for the team, as he leads all second basemen in key offensive metrics.
He leads with 27 home runs, 80 RBI, and a .480 slugging percentage. On the season, the 32-year-old is batting .253 with a .318 on-base percentage, a .798 OPS and a 3.4 fWAR. Lowe is also sporting the best pull-air % of his career (28.9%), and it has added to his production this season.
Considering he's provided elite numbers for the Bucs, the Pirates got him on a great deal as they only had to retain $11.5 million of his remaining salary for this season.
According to sports journalist John Perrotto, the Pirates are projected to offer Lowe a two-year, $30 million deal this winter. The Pirates would be wise to lock him in before this season ends, with a potential lockout coming for 2027.
Brandon Lowe continues to be a dominant force for the Pirates
Lowe has been a force to be reckoned with, logging 58 home runs since the start of last season, and no other second baseman has hit 50 home runs over that span.
Lowe has also provided leadership to a young Pirates team and has come up clutch in big moments, including three multi-homer games this season and a five-RBI game against the Chicago Cubs back in April.
But in his most recent display of offensive dominance, he hit a walk-off home run on Wednesday, providing a comeback victory against the Detroit Tigers that led to a 4-3 victory.
As well, it was also the second consecutive series win for the Pirates. Lowe has continued to give Tigers reliever Kenley Jansen a tough time on the mound, illustrating how history repeats itself. In his career against Jansen, across seven at-bats, he's compiled two extra-base hits with a home run, two runs, and has boasted a 1.429 OPS.
