Torre van Mechgelen of the de Baets AIT Racing Team enjoyed a perfect weekend at the international motocross event at Keiheuvel. The Yamaha rider set the fastest time in qualifying before going on to win both races. He finished the event with an impressive 1-1-1 result.

Van Mechgelen got off to a strong start in qualifying. Despite the heavy traffic on the track, he managed to set the fastest lap, giving him plenty of confidence heading into the races.

In the first race, he made a good start, although things nearly went wrong when he almost went over backwards shortly after the start. He still managed to enter the first corner in fifth position. During the opening lap, he immediately worked his way up to third. When the two riders in front of him both made mistakes, Van Mechgelen took over the lead.

From that moment on, he rode his own race. With consistent lap times, he built a comfortable lead and controlled the race all the way to victory.

The second race went even better. Van Mechgelen took the holeshot and immediately moved into the lead. From the opening lap onwards, he controlled the race and never surrendered first place.

With pole position in qualifying and two race victories, Van Mechgelen could look back on an almost perfect weekend at Keiheuvel.

“What a weekend! Qualifying was very busy on the track, but I still managed to set the fastest time. I was really happy with that.

“In the first race, I had a reasonably good start, although things nearly went wrong when I almost went over backwards. Luckily, I still came through the first corner in fifth. During the first lap, I made a few passes and moved up to third. When the two riders in front of me made a mistake together, I was able to take over the lead. From that moment on, I rode my own race, put in consistent lap times and, above all, really enjoyed riding at the front.

“In the second race, I took the holeshot and was able to control the race from the lead all the way to the finish. So, a 1-1-1 result. I’m very happy with the result and with how the entire weekend went. A huge thank you to the team for all their hard work and support. Without them, this would not have been possible.
