Trey Mancini is hanging up his cleats. 

After two incredible comebacks to the big leagues, Mancini announced Tuesday that he was stepping away from the game, ending his eight-year MLB career. 

“As some of you may have heard, I am officially retiring from professional baseball,” Mancini wrote in a post on Instagram. “I am blessed to have made a home in the Orioles organization for ten years, win a World Series in Houston, play for the Cubs in Chicago (I wish I played better for you guys), and make it back up to the MLB with the Angels. I’d also like to thank the Reds, Marlins, and Diamondbacks for giving me opportunities in their organizations.”

Mancini spent the bulk of his career in Baltimore, hitting 117 home runs across six seasons with the O’s and finishing third in the 2017 American League Rookie of the Year race. 

“To every fan, especially those in Birdland, your support over the years has meant the world to me,” he added. “There is nothing more special in sports than a connection between a team and their fans, and I was lucky enough to feel that everywhere I played.”

Mancini, 34, thanked his wife, Sara, his family, friends, teammates and coaches, but especially the doctors who allowed him to continue his baseball career in 2020. 

That year, Mancini missed the entire season after being diagnosed with Stage 3 colon cancer and later undergoing surgery and chemotherapy.

He returned to Baltimore in 2021, playing in 147 games with 21 homers en route to the AL Comeback Player of the Year award.

A year later, Mancini won the World Series as a member of the Astros after being traded to Houston mid-season.

Mancini would later fall out of baseball, missing the entire 2024 season before spending 2025 in Triple-A.

Earlier this year, he signed a minor league deal with the Angels and earned a call-up in June. 

Mancini went 3-for-4 in his first game back, although he was designated for assignment after just five contests.

“It was fun to be back out there,” Mancini said at the time of his latest return. “It’s the same emotions you go through when you debut when it’s been that long of a layoff.

“It was just great to be back out there and something I definitely don’t — and won’t — take for granted.”
