As lucky as they've been throughout the 2026 season, the Chicago White Sox benefited from their magic again on Sunday. 

For the second time in the series, the White Sox won thanks to a walk-off home run, getting by the New York Mets 2-1. 

Tristan Peters became the White Sox latest single-game hero 

With the score tied and a 3-2 count on the board, outfielder Tristan Peters smoked a solo shot into deep center field. Peters' blast won the game and the series — Chicago took two out of three in the series, pulling out both wins in the bottom of the ninth inning. 

The game-winning long ball was only Peters' ninth home run of the season. He now has 45 RBI and 48 runs scored with a .271 batting average, a .334 OBP and a .438 slug through 347 at-bats in 125 games.

But Peters' home run also made some history beyond just what happened over the weekend. He became the fifth different White Sox player to hit a walk-off home run, tying the most for the franchise in a season.

Peters joined teammates Miguel Vargas, Edgar Quero, Braden Montgomery and Jake Rogers as owners of a 2026 White Sox walk-off home run. 

And even beyond those names, Peters, in the midst of his first true season after only playing in four games last year, is already in great company.

Five different players also secured wins for the White Sox by going yard in 2014, 2008 and 1988. Those players were Adam Dunn, Tyler Flowers, Dayan Viciedo, Alexei Ramirez and Jose Abreu from 2014; Jim Thome, Nick Swisher, A.J. Pierzynski, Carlos Quentin, Paul Konerko in 2008; and Carlton Fisk, Dave Gallagher, Steve Lyons, Gary Redus, Dan Pasqua as the first group to do so in 1988. 

All in all, the walk-off magic has helped the White Sox sit at the top of the American League Central and appear headed to the playoffs after three straight 100-plus losing seasons.
