Tim Anderson’s time in Major League Baseball has come to an end. 

The former Chicago White Sox shortstop announced his retirement, closing the book on a career in which he became a fan favorite and one of the faces of the franchise.

Anderson's retirement was revealed in a social media post from the White Sox official X account. Chicago also revealed that it would honoring Anderson in a pregame ceremony on Sept. 17.

Anderson spent the first eight seasons of his MLB career with the White Sox.

Tim Anderson was the best shortstop in baseball for multiple seasons

From 2019-22, Anderson was the best shortstop in all of baseball. His batting average was consistently up above .300, including in 2019 when he led all players with a .335 average.

Anderson won a Silver Slugger Award and finished seventh in MVP voting in the COVID-shortened 2020 season. That was followed by back-to-back All-Star Game selections in 2021 and 2022, two more seasons in which his batting average eclipsed .300.

The last two seasons of his career were disappointing

After having a player option declined by the White Sox prior to the 2024 season, Anderson landed with Miami Marlins.

Injuries allowed him to appear in just 65 games for Miami, and the production just wasn't there anymore. Anderson spent the 2025 season with the Los Angeles Angels but appeared in just 31 games. 

It was certainly not the career ending that he had hoped for, but Anderson gave Chicago plenty of memorable moments and the impact he made on the franchise is undeniable.
