UFC star Paddy Pimblett believes Carlos Prates has what it takes to become a world champion in the promotion.

For the longest time now, Carlos Prates has been entertaining the masses in the Ultimate Fighting Championship. He’s an exceptionally fun fighter to watch and outside of the cage, his cool, calm and collected persona has won over many viewers and pundits alike.

Even his smoking, which you wouldn’t usually associate with an elite athlete, has led to Prates gaining even further widespread appeal. Now, he’s in a position where it seems like he is the next in line for a shot at the UFC welterweight champion Islam Makhachev.

In a recent interview, Paddy Pimblett gave his thoughts on the future of Prates.

“There’s a few fighters where you hear the punches and it sounds like a slap, but it’s a thud,” Pimblett said.

“Carlos Prates is like that. He’s a welterweight, not like a big, massive dude. But lad, when he hits people, they know about it.

“I think he’s like 8-1 in the UFC with eight knockouts,” he continued. “Only lost to Ian Garry and it was a decision.

“I think Prates is a future champion, and he’s a nice dude as well. Some of the knockouts he’s got: spinning back elbows, flying knees.

There’s no denying that Carlos has the fire power to knock out just about anyone in his division. Still, getting through Islam Makhachev is going to be no small task, and he will have to deal with one of the most intense and efficient wrestlers that the Ultimate Fighting Championship has ever seen. Either way, though, Paddy could be on to something here.
