Liverpool are back level against Newcastle United thanks to a stunning long-range strike from Cody Gakpo for Andoni Iraola’s side.

The Reds had fallen behind early in the match at St. James’ Park after Anthony Elanga finished off a lightning-fast counter-attack for the Magpies.

However, Liverpool emerged for the second half with renewed intensity, pushing Newcastle back into their own half before finding their equaliser in the 55th minute.

Cody Gakpo scores stunning equaliser against Newcastle

The goal was crafted by a clever piece of movement from Gakpo, who called for the ball as Ryan Gravenberch threaded a precise pass into his path.

Taking just one quick touch forward to set himself, the Dutch international unleashed a rocket of a strike from nearly 20 yards out. The goalkeeper was left completely helpless as the thunderous shot drilled past him, straight into the bottom left corner.

Cody Gakpo is strongly linked with a move to Tottenham

Gakpo’s sensational goal comes amidst intense transfer speculation linking him with a move away from Anfield before the window closes.

Tottenham have been strongly pursuing the Dutch forward, with Roberto De Zerbi identifying Gakpo as a key priority to bolster Spurs’ dynamic frontline alongside Savinho and Omar Marmoush.

Personal terms are reportedly not expected to be an issue, though a formal agreement on the transfer fee remains pending.

Liverpool cannot afford to lose Cody Gakpo

Gakpo’s goal against Newcastle reinforces why sanctioning his departure would be a massive mistake for Liverpool.

With Mohamed Salah no longer at the club and Alexander Isak struggling to find his best form in the central attacking role, Gakpo currently looks like one of Liverpool’s most reliable sources of goals from the forward line.

His ability to operate across the attack, create chances and produce moments of individual quality makes him particularly valuable to Iraola.

Selling him to a direct Premier League rival would not only weaken Liverpool’s own attacking options but could simultaneously make Tottenham considerably stronger.

Gakpo’s stunning finish at St. James’ Park therefore could not have come at a more important time.
