While George Springer didn't exactly replicate his offensive output from 2025 this season, he showed flashes of dominance that make him worthy of returning next season. 

The Toronto Blue Jays re-signing him to a one-year deal would provide the team with a veteran presence who still carries pop with his bat. Perhaps they could retain him at a reduced cost with eyes toward a role as a designated hitter and part-time outfielder.

Springer is set to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of this season, and having a fan-favorite remain with the franchise would bring optimism to the Toronto fan base. 

His clubhouse leadership would benefit the young talent that the team possesses, such as outfielder Brett Bateman. Springer has also hit .327/.375/.490 with an .865 OPS across his last 30 games and his 15 home runs rank second on the team, so he still can offer on-field production.

Why not sign him to a 1 year deal? I’m not sayin he should be leadoff but I think he can really help the younger players

Springer's proven postseason pedigree as a former World Series MVP who can deliver late-inning power is also an asset. While Springer has dealt with slumps in his career with the Blue Jays, he has continued to demonstrate resurgence, despite his age and decline in his performance. 

But his late-season success in 2026 is a strong sign that he still can provide value.

Despite a disappointing season for the Blue Jays that culminated in being eliminated from the postseason on Wednesday, Springer provided clutch moments for the team this season. All things considered, it makes sense to bring him back.
