According to manager John Schneider, the Toronto Blue Jays are still deciding who will start on the mound in Saturday's game against the New York Yankees. Two possibilities could be Simeon Woods Richardson and Lazaro Estrada.

Considering that Woods Richardson has demonstrated his ability to pitch in long relief it would allow for the Blue Jays to eat up innings if they grant him the start.

Richardson has also put on a strong performance through a small sample size, sporting a 2-0 record with a 0.69 ERA with seven strikeouts and a 1.23 WHIP across 13 innings pitched.

He's continued to showcase how he's deserving to pitch more and giving him the start on Saturday would allow him to showcase that he's capable of starting more games.

Blue Jays still “literally up in the air” for Saturday’s rotation vacancy, said John Schneider. Said depending on usage, Simeon Woods Richardson could be one possibility and Lazaro Estrada another.

Simeon Woods Richardson has proved his worth

Having Woods Richardson pitch would also lessen the workload of the overworked Blue Jays bullpen, which is why they claimed Paul Seawald off waivers from the Arizona Diamondbacks on Wednesday. Seawald is expected to make his debut with the Blue Jays on Friday.

Having Woods Richardson start also provides the Blue Jays with a fresh arm as Estrada has been utilized frequently of late. Richardson is also capable of being stretched out and can handle pitching multiple innings. He could pitch around four and 2/3 innings and then Lazaro Estrada could come on after him.

The 25-year-old right-hander has also recorded 10 scoreless innings this season for the Blue Jays, which would help to provide shutdown innings early in the game. If Richardson continues to provide an impact he also deserves to remain on the 40-man roster.
