It was already known that New York Yankees slugger and captain Aaron Judge would miss the rest of the regular season due to the right calf strain that landed him back on the injured list. 

Ahead of Tuesday afternoon's game between the Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays in the Bronx, New York manager Aaron Boone shared an update on Judge for at least the start of the playoffs.

Will Aaron Judge play at all in wild-card round of the playoffs? 

As noted by the MLB website, Boone confirmed on Tuesday that Judge likely won't play in the expected American League wild-card playoff series between the Yankees and the rival Boston Red Sox. Tampa Bay could eliminate the Yankees from the division-title race as soon as Tuesday. 

Boone added that Judge will be shut down for a few days after he had a platelet-poor plasma injection in his right calf on Monday. 

It's the latest brutal blow for Judge amid what's become a frustrating season for the three-time AL Most Valuable Player. He was out of the Yankees' lineup from June 1 through the evening of Sept. 7 due to a stress fracture of the first rib on his right side, and he then appeared in just seven games before he went down with his latest setback. 

In total, Judge slashed .241/.360/.511 with an .871 OPS, 18 home runs and 41 RBI across 66 games this season. 

Will Aaron Judge play before 2027 if Yankees advance? 

Yankees fans will now hope that the club can advance in the playoffs without Judge and then get him back later in October. However, MLB insider Joel Sherman of the New York Post suggested during a recent edition of the "Pinstripe Post" program that Judge may not even be available for the World Series. 

"There's some strong possibility he doesn't play anymore," Sherman said about Judge's status for the rest of this season, per Patrick McAvoy of Sports Illustrated. "Calf strains are notorious for when they heal. Let them heal more because it is a re-injury area of the body."
