The second-to-last bout of Dana White’s Contender Series Season 10, Week 1 card featured a clash between Abe Alsaghir and Fabrizio Escarrega.
Tonight, both lightweights might not have done enough to earn a UFC contract after the 15-min snoozefest.
As the 155-pound contest began, Abe Alsaghir decided to go all out and control the pace. To regain control of the fight, Fabrizio Escarrega immediately initiated the clinch, where he landed several heavy shots. Alsaghir also landed combos while repeatedly attempting to secure takedowns, but he was unable to bring his opponent to the mat.
Round 2 was largely uneventful, with both fighters spending most of the round in the clinch and very little significant action. Alsaghir attempted more than a dozen double-leg takedowns but scored not one.
Round 3 was another uneventful round, with both fighters appearing to tire as they spent much of the round scrambling and reversing positions on the ground. The undefeated Alsaghir briefly attempted a heel hook but was unable to create any significant threat with the submission.
In the final 20 seconds, both fighters decided to brawl, coming forward and swinging wildly. However, neither was able to land anything particularly significant before the final bell.
Official decison: Abe Alsaghir defeated Fabrizio Escarrega by split decision (29-28, 29-28, 27-30)
