Washington Wizards big man Anthony Davis became eligible to sign an extension on August 6. However, that date isn't likely to hold much significance for Davis nor the Wizards. Washington and Davis aren't expected to discuss an extension until we're in-season.

If Davis declines his player option for the 2027-28 season, he could sign a four-year, $274.9 million extension that would start at $61.4 million. If Davis opted in for the 2027-28 season, he could sign a three-year, $213.6 million extension that would start at $65.9 million in 2028-29. In order to sign that latter version of an extension, Davis would need to complete that prior to the regular season starting. Thus, the four-year version is seen as the likely path for now.

The veteran big man and the Wizards seem to be in good standing together. Both Davis and the team could be holding off on extension talks until they see how things go on the floor. Davis was shut down due to various injuries after Washington acquired him ahead of the trade deadline. As such, Davis' Wizards debut is expected to occur on opening night of the regular season.

Davis did take part in a team minicamp that the Wizards held in Las Vegas during Summer League. The 14-year veteran was also spotted at games the Summer Wizards played, alongside several Washington teammates.
