Charles Oliveira and Arman Tsarukyan

Arman Tsarukyan is seemingly teetering on the precipice of a lightweight title shot, with rumors of a rematch with an ex-155-pound titleholder popping up, and a former UFC lightweight champion has discussed the future prospects of the former. Frankie Edgar is the referenced former champion in question who spoke on Bowks Talking Bouts after a Real American Freestyle decision win over Clay Guida recently at RAF 11.

‘The Answer’ mentioned that he would like to see a rematch between Arman Tsarukyan and Charles Oliveira, with reports loosely circulating about that bout happening at UFC 331. When asked about Tsarukyan’s general trajectory in MMA and what the elite lightweight needs to do to secure his shot at divisional glory in the UFC, Edgar said [via Bowks Talking Bouts],

“Yeah. I think [Arman’s] doing everything; [doing] the right thing to get the fight now. He’s making himself more popular. He’s out there competing. He’s out there on video streams and whatnot. Everyone’s talking about him. He’s winning the fights that he’s supposed to. I think he kind of dropped the ball, I guess, when he got injured or didn’t make weight or however that went down.”

“I’m sure he’s kind of just dealing with the repercussions of that. But winning has a way of taking care of things. [If] he goes out there and if this rematch with Charles [Oliveira] happens, I feel like [Arman’s] undeniable after that.”

Arman Tsarukyan and Charles Oliveira’s reported rematch details

Arman Tsarukyan and Charles Oliveira reportedly running it back on September 19th would be a massive matchup, but there are some interesting wrinkles to the recent reports around this matchup. UFC 331 goes down at Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles, California, with some reports indicating that the BMF title may not be on the line in this sequel clash.

Red Corner MMA began circulating the possibility that this fight would transpire in the fall, and this time the two will compete over the course of five rounds. Their initial fight was a three-round affair with Tsarukyan edging out Oliveira by way of a split decision at UFC 300 in April 2024.
