Bella Mir is taking her upset loss at Dana White’s Contender Series 89 in stride.

The daughter of former UFC heavyweight titleholder Frank Mir was in action this past Tuesday. Going into what was essentially her UFC tryout, Mir was a massive betting favorite over Alex Apodaca. In reality, this one went the distance and it was Apodaca who pulled off the unanimous decision victory.

In the aftermath of her DWCS 89 defeat, Mir issued a statement on her Instagram page. She gave credit to Apodaca for getting the job done, and she plans to bounce back.

“I’ve lost so many times. Big or small, each loss carries me into a different mindset and learning experience to be a better athlete. I have overcome every single obstacle into my life and I will overcome this one. Now it’s just a bit different that this loss is more famous than all my other losses.

“Thank you so much to everyone sending me love and encouragement. And I promise to all of you that it takes way more than hate and 1 single loss in my MMA career to break me. I want to thank my team, my family, my fans and Dana for getting me here and further.

“I also want to thank Alex for taking this fight, all respect to her. Every time I lose, I come back and win something bigger and better. No loss has ever defined me, and neither will this one. And how cool is it to do what I love on such a big platform. Literally living my dream!! Next Best Thing.”

UFC CEO Dana White told reporters after the event that Mir gained “deep water experience” in the loss to Apodaca. White also wasn’t shocked by the outcome, as he feels no one is truly as big of a favorite as Mir was going into Tuesday’s event.

The loss sets Mir’s pro MMA record to 4-1. How soon she plans on fighting again and whether or not it’ll be on DWCS remains to be seen.
