Ben Simmons is preparing to take another step toward a potential NBA return by participating without restrictions in a player-led mini-camp for the Australian national team beginning Monday.

According to Marc J. Spears, Simmons is paying his own expenses to attend the camp.

A trainer who recently worked with him also believes the former All-NBA player has regained much of his previous athleticism after taking last season off to recover from injuries.

Simmons last appeared in the NBA during the 2024-25 season, splitting time between the Brooklyn Nets and Los Angeles Clippers.

He averaged 5.0 points, 5.6 assists and 4.7 rebounds per game.

After recently signaling his desire to make an NBA comeback, Simmons has reportedly attracted interest from several teams.

At least one Western Conference club has offered him an invitation to training camp.

The former No. 1 overall pick is also reportedly willing to accept a veteran’s minimum contract as he attempts to return to the league.

Beyond an NBA comeback, Simmons has another long-term goal in mind: representing Australia at the 2028 Olympics.
