The Cleveland Cavaliers have agreed to trade Dennis Schroder and cash to the Charlotte Hornets for Tre Mann. The deal gives Cleveland added financial flexibility as they navigate their continued offseason activity..

The move brings Schroder back to Hornets president Jeff Peterson and head coach Charles Lee, both of whom worked with the guard during his early years with the Atlanta Hawks. Charlotte, Cleveland and Schroder's representative, Mark Bartelstein of Priority Sports, spent the past two months negotiating the trade.

For Cleveland, the deal helps keep the roster further beneath the second tax apron. That savings could support the front office's ongoing pursuit of other moves this offseason.

The Cavaliers continue discussions with free agent James Harden on a new two- or three-year deal. Harden's midseason arrival in Cleveland last year helped fuel the team's run to the Eastern Conference finals.

Cleveland is also monitoring the markets for restricted free agent Peyton Watson and unrestricted free agent Jonathan Kuminga, two forwards the front office has shown interest in. The financial breathing room created by moving Schroder's salary could factor into those pursuits.

Schroder split last season between the Sacramento Kings and Cleveland, appearing in 70 combined games. He posted averages of 10.8 points, 4.9 assists and 2.7 rebounds across 24.2 minutes. The trade sends him to his 12th NBA franchise as he begins a 14th professional season.

Mann appeared in 53 games for Charlotte last season, averaging 5.5 points, 1.7 rebounds and 1.6 assists in 12.6 minutes per contest.
