The Cleveland Cavaliers have waived Cam Whitmore and will stretch the remaining money on his contract over the next three seasons.

Whitmore recently arrived in Cleveland from the Washington Wizards as part of the Peyton Watson sign-and-trade, but the Cavaliers were not expected to keep the 22-year-old forward on their roster.

By using the waive-and-stretch provision, Cleveland will save approximately $3.6 million this season.

The player will instead count about $1.8 million against the Cavaliers’ salary cap in each of the next three seasons.

Whitmore played 21 games for Washington last season, averaging 9.2 points and 2.8 rebounds in 16.9 minutes per game.
