The Cleveland Cavaliers still have unfinished business this offseason. The Cavs are still expected to re-sign veteran guard James Harden. What that contract will look like is still dependent on what other additions Cleveland can make. And those other additions may be depended on making moves to clear out some salary.

One player the Cavs are exploring trading is Dennis Schroder. Cleveland would like to move Schroder and his $14.8 million salary for the upcoming season. The veteran point guard is also owed $15.5 million for the 2027-28 season, but only $4.4 million of that season is guaranteed.

If Cleveland could move Schroder without taking any salary back, they'd be roughly $37.6 million under the first apron. That could leave enough room to add a player via sign-and-trade, while still leaving space to re-sign Harden. Schroder's salary could fit into any number of trade exceptions, as well as teams who have the full Non-Taxpayer MLE to use as a trade exception.

The Cavs have been linked to both Peyton Watson and Jonthan Kuminga in recent weeks. Watson is a restricted free agent with the Denver Nuggets, while Kuminga has full Bird rights with the Atlanta Hawks.
