Conor McGregor recently went under the knife following his disastrous UFC 329 return, and he’s in high spirits.
McGregor has undergone surgeries in the past, and he needed his fifth procedure done after a comeback attempt. McGregor stepped inside the Octagon for the first time since breaking his leg against Dustin Poirier in 2021. Five years after that nightmare, the Irish megastar endured another setback.
The “Notorious” one suffered ACL and meniscus injuries early in his rematch with Max Holloway. It was a moment of déjà vu for McGregor, who tore his ACL against Holloway in their first encounter back in 2013. This go-around, it was McGregor’s right knee that gave him serious issues, and there was no chance for him to push through the injury this time.
McGregor revealed on his Instagram Stories that his surgery is complete, and he is thrilled with how things turned out.
“Surgery went excellent,” McGregor wrote. “I am confident.”
While McGregor has vowed to make a strong return for the “last dance” in 2027, some question whether or not giving it another go is a good idea. Former UFC welterweight contender Darren Till spoke to The Independent, and he urged McGregor to listen to his body.
Others have been a little more optimistic about McGregor’s efforts to have one last moment inside the Octagon. Ex-UFC middleweight titleholder Chris Weidman believes the Irishman will go through with his plans to fight again because he doesn’t want to go out with a fight-ending injury.
McGregor responded to a fan on X after being asked who he prefers to fight when he fully recovers. The former two-division UFC champion insisted that the trilogy with Holloway must be completed after how things ended at the conclusion of UFC 329.
