Gregory Rodrigues hopes Dricus du Plessis was paying close attention to the UFC Sacramento main event.

Rodrigues entered Golden 1 Center in Sacramento for his headliner against Anthony Hernandez this past Saturday. It was no easy task for Rodrigues, who was competing in hostile territory against a top 10-ranked opponent. Hernandez was also hoping to bounce back after being stopped by current UFC Middleweight Champion Sean Strickland back in February.

Rodrigues and Hernandez displayed some fireworks in their clash, and the bout went the distance. “Robocop” was able to outlast “Fluffy” just enough to earn the unanimous decision victory. One judge even gave Rodrigues a 49-46 score total, while the others saw it 48-47.

During his post-fight interview with UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping, Rodriguez set his sights on a former middleweight titleholder (via MMAJunkie).

“Dricus Du Plessis, where are you?” Rodrigues said. “I want you. Let’s go. No. 1 contender to fight for the belt.”

Later on, Rodrigues spoke to reporters during the UFC Sacramento post-fight press conference. The Brazilian bruiser said he’ll soon find out if his managers and the UFC brass can pull off a big fight with “Stillknocks.”

“Dricus Du Plessis, that fight makes a lot of sense for my next battle,” Rodrigues said. “I will talk to managers and the UFC and see what can happen.”

In his most recent outing, du Plessis defeated former welterweight titleholder Kamaru Usman via unanimous decision. Many feel it was Usman’s most decisive loss in terms of being outmatched over the course of five rounds. It was also a much-needed showing from du Plessis, who rebounded after a one-sided loss to Khamzat Chimaev, which ended his UFC middleweight title reign.

With his victory over Hernandez, Rodrigues is moving closer to a top five spot. He could take Hernandez’s No. 7 ranking in Monday’s update. At the moment, du Plessis sits at No. 2.
