Olympic gold medalist Gable Steveson has his second UFC assignment, and it’s not exactly an opponent on many fans’ radars.

UFC heavyweight prospect Gable Steveson checked a lot of boxes in his highly anticipated Octagon debut earlier this summer at UFC 329. After immense hype stemming from the Olympic gold medalist’s training with Jon Jones, Steveson lived up to expectations, earning a first-round knockout against Elisha Ellison.

UFC CEO Dana White hinted that Steveson could potentially get fast-tracked to the heavyweight Top 15 amidst a sluggish state in the division. Steveson was linked to potential fights against Derrick Lewis and Josh Hokit almost immediately after UFC 329.

Just weeks after his successful UFC debut, Steveson will make a relatively quick turnaround and fight on the upcoming UFC 331 card in Los Angeles.

Gable Steveson added to rumored Charles Oliveira vs. Arman Tsarukyan 2 undercard

As announced by the promotion on Wednesday, Steveson will face Sean Sharaf (4-2-0) at UFC 331 next month. Sharaf is 0-2 in the UFC with second-round KO losses to Junior Tafa and Steven Asplund.

Sharaf was supposed to fight fan favorite Tai Tuivasa before suffering a nasal fracture just weeks before the fight. Before his recent 0-2 stint in the UFC, Sharaf began his professional MMA career unbeaten through his first four fights, with all four fights ending by first-round knockout.

Sharaf provides a similar opponent level for Steveson that Ellison provided for him, on paper, last month at UFC 329. Steveson will undoubtedly be a significant favorite against Sharaf next month at UFC 331.

BMF titleholder Charles Oliveira is rumored to fight Arman Tsarukyan in the UFC 331 main event, along with UFC flyweight champ Joshua Van’s return against Alexandre Pantoja. The full UFC 331 card is expected to be announced in the coming weeks.
