The Guardians announced that right-hander Connor Brogdon’s contract has been selected from Triple-A Columbus.  Cleveland already had an opening on its 40-man roster, so right-hander Franco Aleman was optioned to Triple-A in the only corresponding move.

Brogdon signed a one-year, $900K guaranteed deal with the Guards last winter, and then posted a 5.28 ERA over 15 1/3 innings out of the club’s bullpen.  As has been the case for much of his big league career, Brogdon had trouble keeping the ball in the park, as he allowed five homers in his 15 1/3 frames.

Cleveland designated Brogdon for assignment in May and he accepted an outright assignment to Columbus, but he was soon reassigned to the Arizona Complex League.  The righty only returned to Triple-A action in the first week of August, and he has a 6.35 ERA and a 16.3% walk rate over 11 1/3 innings for Columbus.

Despite those shaky numbers, Brogdon also has a 26.5% strikeout rate and just one homer allowed during his brief time in Triple-A.  Since Aleman was torched for four runs in two-thirds of an inning in yesterday’s 4-3 loss to the Twins, the Guardians may view Brogdon as a short-term fresh arm for the pen.
